It's been a busy month and our writing staff here at the Island Top Team blog have neglected to keep you updated on recent promotions, so there's a bit of catching up to do. First off, our 2013 Worlds competition team received stripes not long after their return from California. We don't promote based on competition results here at Island Top Team, but getting ready for a tournament can be a great way to improve your Jiu-Jitsu, and that most definitely earns you a promotion. With that said, Gary, Shane and Umesh definitely saw big gains in their proficiency in the lead up to the worlds, so stripes were in order.
Not long after that, Umesh earned his second stripe, and Paul his first. Then over the weekend, Taylor, who exponentially improved his guard work recently, earned his second stripe, and Umesh, who is improving at a geometric rate during his stay with ITT, picked up his third.
And finally, Rory was awarded his long awaited blue belt promotion, making him Island Top Team's second ever blue belt, representing our highly technical style with aplomb.
Congratulations boys, everyone on the team is proud of your hard work, skill and your willingness to hold the line against the blatant rank inflation in the BJJ community. Ours is an instant gratification oriented society, and those willing to work for significant achievements find themselves in the minority. We may be a small town Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy, but we aspire to a world class standard, and everyone who earns their rank here is living up to that standard.
